From the list of events I could have chose for my project, I saw the Spanish Armada the most interesting to me. The fact that the mighty, so called "invincible" fleet of ships were defeated by England, which was still a second-rate country, means there were a lot of strong leaders for it to happen. Also, the defeat of the Spanish Armada can be seen as a turning point in European power. The English rose in power, while Spain fell, making
the legacy of the Spanish Armada being change. With the luck of the die, I chose the Spanish Armada because of all the interesting facts about a turning point in history.
I based my research on what I was going to write about. Thinking about the Spanish Armada, the importance of the battle between England and Spain led me to search for background knowledge for my research. Then, I found great historical leaders, such as Sir Francis Drake, King Philip the Second, and Queen Elizabeth the First, and did my research in accordance with the Spanish Armada. This gave me many secondary sources on the topic. After reading and researching the sources, I tried to find a primary source that would fit with my research. At the end, I cut out the sources I didn't end up using for my project.
From the beginning, I could not decide to pick a website or a paper. I have done many papers before, so doing them would be more comfortable to me, but the idea of making a website sounded fun. I tried to start a website, but I couldn't figure out many things. The main reason I picked the website over the research paper is because I saw my information more fit into categories that can be sections in my website. With that in mind, I created the separate categories, mainly Spanish Armada, Sir Francis Drake, Queen Elizabeth, and Legacy, for my information. Then, I created my title page and started to give information on my website. After finishing the information, I created a page for my annotated bibliography, which I had done before creating this website, and finally I created the process paper.
The Spanish Armada was a mighty opponent for the English. So, leadership was crucial for England to succeed in their efforts in battle. Sir Francis Drake and Queen Elizabeth had great leadership as they helped their men to fight and defeat the Spanish. Because of their efforts, Drake and Elizabeth left a legacy of a new era where England was the most powerful country. This leads England to create many things and change history, like the formation of the American colonies. The leadership and legacy parts of the Spanish Armada are directly related to the NHD's theme of leadership and legacy in history.
